Swadhisthana, the Sacral Chakra

The second chakra, Swadhisthana, is also known as the sacral chakra. It’s located three to four fingers below the belly button and is responsible for the elaborated functions of our daily lives, such as desire, sensuality, passion, material attachments and creativity.

But how are we connected to the Earth through this chakra? Swadhisthana is connected to the element of water, directing the flow of our emotions and, when balanced, bringing harmony .

The sacral chakra is connected to the receivement of physical, mental and spiritual pleasure. Having the second chakra aligned means having control over your sexual organs and energizing them. On the other hand, lacking self-knowledge might be de-energizing the center of your vital energy, causing general mental instability, the fear of change, decreasing creativity and even sexual dysfunctions.

If you’re having trouble with all of that, which might be common and most of the time we don’t even know why, the answer is on the swadhisthana chakra.

Below, we enlisted some tips to help you through this journey of self-discovery and harmonization with this chakra.

Activities related to the water

It is the chakra related to water and just by watching clear, refreshing water, you can already feel yourself starting to heal. Since we are living under a time of social distancing, you can connect with this energy by simply enjoying a warm bath or a  nice refreshing shower.

Food

When our Sacral Chakra is unbalanced, it’s normal for the symptoms to come in the form of bladder issues, joint stiffness and kidneys dysfunctions. It also includes, lack of energy, addictions and fear of expressing yourself.

For that, eat food with the color orange, like carrots, mangoes and rich in omega -3 like salmon and nuts.

And since it’s the chakra of the element of the water, stay hydrated. 

Try this smoothie of coconut, orange + mango:

  1. 1 large orange, peeled and sliced;
  2. 1 sliced frozen banana;
  3. 10 oz of frozen mango;
  4. 1 cup of unsweetened coconut milk;
  5. 1 tablespoon of coconut oil

Blend the first four ingredients in a high-speed blender until smooth. With the blender running, slowly add the melted coconut oil until combined.

Aromatherapy

For the sacral chakra, you can use essential oils such as Ylang Ylang, roses and neroli for women and patchouli and priprioca for men.

Just remember that it can be used during meditation through a diffuser to inhale it or applied to the skin only after diluted on a carrier oil, never directly on the skin in its pure form.

Crystals

Each chakra is connected to specific stones that can be meditated with, held in your hand or carried.

For the Swadhisthana chakra, the best stones are: 

Citrine, also known as the mind stone. It is also meant to help with self-esteem.

Moonstone, although they come in an array of colors, opt for the peach moonstone. It helps to reduce worries and carry a loving energy.

Orange calcite, that enhances creativity, helps you move past any emotional barrier and connects mind and body.

Use this time to look inside yourself. It all has to do with getting rid of toxic energies, relationships and habits, especially the ones you have with yourself.

Power + money 

This Sacral level has a lot to do with partnership and power and, as always, the imbalance of it can result in ugly aspects of these to come through, such as greed and the need to control everything.

But there are always ways to change the mindset of how these things come to you.

The balance of the Sacral Chakra, be it through affirmation sentences, crystals and meditation, comes with the mindset that we can’t control everything around us, but we can control and have power over our inner responses to the outside world. 

And as for money, we practice how we see our relation with it, if we’re being greedy or selfish. Feeling undeserving of your money is just as bad as feeling you deserve even more.

Affirmation sentences

Affirmation sentences can be used during mediations and they help you open your mind to the truths that you might not believe yet but, with some practice and time, will be incorporated into your life and help you align your chakra more easily.

During meditation, after you’ve chosen a quiet, private place, try to listen to the sound of waterfalls or freshwater. Put your hands on your lap, palms up, one over the other.

Focus on the chakra and its color orange and sing the mantra, feeling the energy flowing through you.

Don’t forget the affirmation sentences:

  • I honor my emotions, passions and desires.
  • I’m emotionally healthy.
  • It is safe for me to feel and express my emotions.
  • I’m sexually balanced and healthy.
  • I embrace my sexuality. It is a natural part of my life.
  • I’m flexible and open to changes.
  • Every day, I experience more and more joy and satisfaction.

Use the color orange

That’s the color of the Swadhisthana chakra. It means joy and creativity. The orange color helps a person to recover from disappointments or a blow to the heart. Whether you wear it or you use it in some other aspect of your life, keep orange in you as a sign to your harmonization to the sacral chakra.
